Hey guys! It's Beth one more time with a fun Color Me Monday Palette! This week I was super inspired by our Autumn Hello stamp set which features two cute little foxes. The color palette worked perfectly with the idea I had in my head of a well known salt girl, adding in the orange of the fox from our stamp set.
For the sketch, I had something more ambitious in mind, but after I had put everything together, I thought it was too busy so I toned it down, giving you the opportunity to have a lot of fun with a stencil or even some patterned paper.
Personally I prefer having more open space to get inky and messy. I hope you agree! My fox is the only colored piece on this but he's nice and big so I did use 3 color copic blends for each portion. For the fox I used YR16, YR68, and YR07. I had to look up foxes in the wild and found that their paws tend to be darker so I started with YR16 and added a little dark brown, E79.
For that iconic yellow dress, in this case jumper, I used Y15, Y08, and Y35. I did come back in the shadows with YR16 to help give it a little more depth. You can do this by adding just a tiny line where a shadow would be in a darker shade than you're using. That's a trick Amy taught me and I've been using it in my coloring ever since.
For the umbrella I used B29, B69, B39 and BG35, BG23, and BG15 as well as Y08 for the polka dots. I went dark with my background to give it a feeling of gloom and wet. I used a paint brush to dry brush the Chipped Sapphire over the Evergreen Bough and then I sprayed and dabbed with water until it looked properly gloomy. I then used the same technique of dry brushing with the Squeezed Lemonade and Carved Pumpkin for my center strip to brighten the card and give a great spot for the sentiment to be read. I also used our stencil Droplets to give some rain feeling behind our fox. For that I blended and allowed the stencil to slide while I dropped ink on to give it a multidimensional look. I'm really happy with how it turned out!
I hope you're inspired by this week's Color Me Monday! I can't wait to see what you make!
